Earth Day

More than 190 countries are celebrating Earth Day. Since 1990, Poland has also been celebrating.

Earth Day celebrations were initiated in the 1970s in the United States. The main goal of the event was to raise the ecological awareness of societies and promote the principles of sustainable development in all corners of the world. Global warming, the omnipresence of plastic or the crisis of biodiversity - these are just some of the issues that are addressed as part of Earth Day.

Involvement in the project of the international community enables a multi-faceted presentation of problems related to ecology, creates an opportunity to present the uniqueness and specificity of various regions in the world, while pointing to the ecological problems of a given area.

The theme of this year's celebration is "Bring back our Earth". The General Directorate for Environmental Protection (GDOŚ) encourages you to engage in pro-ecological activities and care for the Earth on a daily basis. The well-being of our planet depends on the actions of each of us. By changing certain habits, we can actually improve the condition of the Earth.
It is worth making some resolutions - e.g. about less water consumption, diligent waste segregation or resignation from the use of unnecessary plastic. Every year, 10 million tons of plastic end up in the seas and oceans, and the consumption of plastic bags reaches a trillion. Popular "disposable" / "foil bags" are one of the largest sources of plastic pollution, and at the same time simple to eliminate, because it is easy to give up their use.

Plastic that ends up in the water kills more than a million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals every year. It also poses a serious threat to human health. Pollution caused by plastics is inevitably leading humanity towards an ecological catastrophe.
For years, a serious ecological problem has been the drainage of wetlands, the invasion of alien plant and animal species (IGO), the extinction of species (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, also known as the Washington Convention or CITES for short) - as reported by the General Directorate for Environmental Protection constantly informs. As inhabitants of the Earth, we must take an active part in saving our planet.
